We’ve started a project to upgrade our fleet of Xerox multifunctional print devices across campus to newer models. By the end of this spring, over 650 printers on campus will be replaced and staff computer software will be updated.
Benefits of upgrade
This change comes as part of a new agreement between the University of Ottawa and Xerox. The upgrade of multifunction devices:
- provides the latest efficiencies and increased quality for print, photocopy, scanning and fax needs
- ensures reliability and capabilities of machines by upgrading technology
- delivers evergreening efficiencies through energy, paper use, document management, and resource reductions
- allows Information Technology and Xerox to revisit the needs of the faculties and services to ensure their device meets their operational needs
Prepare for the change
Upgrades are already underway! If your multifunction device is awaiting an upgrade, look forward to an email that will be sent to your department contact. Departmental contacts will be emailed to review a device optimization strategy and to confirm the timing of the change. We depend on departmental contacts to work with us to efficiently approve the deployment plans so we can upgrade devices quickly, and to inform their department about the upcoming change. Having staff aware about the printer changes facilitates the update of printer software on their workstations. Once the installation is completed, a short refresher training will be provided (as required) to staff on-site, and informational posters will be displayed prominently near your new device. If your department requires additional support or training after the upgrade, they can contact the Service Desk and a Xerox technician will be sent to provide support.
