CryptoCard Tokens
What is a "CryptoCard token"?
The information provided here is intended to control the issue of CryptoCard tokens, a.k.a. FOB, by the data centre operational personnel of Information technology. These tokens permit system administrators or application developers to access the University of Ottawa’s (UO) computer systems and data in the Trusted Zone of the UO network. The users should fall into one of the following categories:
- Professors
- Support Staff
- Sponsored affiliates or consultants (user contract is needed)
Request Procedure
Approval
The written request must include the following information about the user responsible for the token or, if the token is used by a sponsored user:

- If UO employee
- Name
- Employee number
- If sponsored user (a contract will be drafted for signatures)
- Sponsored user's name (the requestor)
- Sponsored user's date of birth (DD/MM/YY)
- Sponsored user's photo ID number (if available)
- Sponsor's name
- Sponsor's UO employee number
Expiration
The request must also include the shorter of these two token expiry dates:
- The end of the user’s period of appointment (if sponsored)
- One calendar year from the date of the request
Sponsored Users
In the case of sponsorship, a contract must be signed by the sponsored user, the sponsor and the Security Manager. The contract is prepared by the Security Manager with the above required information.
Request Submission
All requests must be submitted using the Service Desk request at or by calling the Service Desk (ext. 6555). The requester will receive notification by the security authority, and may then collect and sign for the token in person at Vanier Hall, Room 540. The turnaround request time is two business days, provided that all the necessary paperwork is in order.
Penalty
A fee of C$75.00 will be charged to the requester/sponsor if the token is not returned to the Security Manager upon termination of the contract or after the token’s expiry date.
