Mobile Device Management project
Mobile Device Management (MDM) helps the University increase the protection and security of University resources from vulnerabilities incurred by the usage of mobile devices. To do so, you will need to install an app called on your device called Company Portal. Once you are registered to it, you will be prompted to confirm your PIN code when using at the University a Microsoft 365 application with your personal or University-owned device. MDM is not used for monitoring specifics around device usage and personal activities.
Step 3: Ready to roll!

Once the setup process is completed, you should be able to access your organization’s file through your phone by confirming your PIN code.
Apple Watch owners: if you have a 4-digit passcode, you will need to change to a more secure 6-digit passcode.
Step 2: Register
Step 1: Download App

Received your device before July 2020? Go directly to Step 2!
Otherwise, download the Intune Company Portal app:
- App Store (12.4.9 +)
- Google Play (9.0 +)
Register for Android devices with v9+
Compatible with Android 9 and later versions. Steps may slightly differ depending on the version of your operating system.
App installation
- Open the Google play store.
- Search for “Intune company portal”.
- Install the app.

4. Open the Company Portal.

5. Sign in with your @uOttawa.ca email account. You will need to use MFA to authenticate.


6. Under the devices tab, click on the red exclamation mark.

7. Click on "This device is not managed".

8. From the Company Portal home page, press begin.

9. Review the privacy policy, accept all the terms and conditions and click on next.

10. Agree to set up work profile.

11. Once the setup process is completed, you should get back to the home page and persue the device configuration.

12. You are all set and should be able to access your organization’s file through your phone! From now on, you will need to confirm your PIN code anytime you want to access your work files.

Register for iOS devices with v12.4.9+
Compatible with iOS 12.4.9 and later versions
App installation
1. Open the App Store, search and install “Intune Company Portal”.

2. Open the Intune company portal and sign in with your @uOttawa.ca email account. You might need to use MFA to authenticate.


3. Allow the notification from the App and from the home page, press begin.

4. Select the enrollment device type (either “I own this device” or uOttawa owns this device”). If you do not see this panel, skip to the next step.
5. Protect the data on the device by either selecting “secure entire device” and “secure work-related apps and data only”

6. Read the device management and privacy policy and continue.


7. Safari browser should open and then allow the download of the configuration profile.

8. Press open when prompted to open Company portal or click Continue now.

9. Go to your phone settings app and tap “enroll in uOttawa” or “profile download”.


10. Return to the company portal app. The device will begin sync and setting up your device. Some updates may be required.The setup is completed when you see a list of green check marks.

You are all set and should be able to access your organization’s file through your phone! From now on, you will need to confirm your PIN code anytime you want to access your work files.
NOTE: make sure your code PIN is a 6 digits number.
