Nina Carter
What is your job title?

Senior Director, Information and Archives Management

How do you view your role as the business owner for Microsoft 365?

As the business owner for Microsoft 365, my role is to work hand-in-hand with Information Technology to implement modern policies, procedures and technology solutions that promote the effective and efficient use, sharing and preservation of the University’s business information assets.

What will be the relationship between your office and information technology?

I’ve been fortunate, throughout my career, to have had held positions in both IM and IT, and as such I believe I’ve gained a unique appreciation for the challenges faced by both sectors. Unfortunately, at too many organizations, a divide exists between IM and IT that ultimately weakens the ability of both sectors to bring value to their organization. I’m a firm believer in an approach to effective information management that could be characterized as “IM and IT” rather than “IM or IT”.

What is your secret superpower?

Great question. I’m pretty skilled at organizing closets. I have two sons, so I’ve had a lot of practice.

What is your hidden passion?

I feel like I have several but my favorite are running and baking.  One to offset the other.

What is your guilty indulgence?

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Find a career that you're passionate about and work hard to learn as much as you can.

If you were to write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

Slow and Steady Wins the Race.  It’s kind of my motto in life because so many things turn out great when you take your time, plan and apply consistency.

What are you learning now, and why is it important?

Since I am a new employee, I am focused on learning about the University and its current IM practices.  It’s really important as we develop our strategy and plan for this year.  Our goal is to provide the necessary IM guidance and advice that helps us move towards realizing our digital transformation objectives.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?

Loving, caring, energetic.

What’s your favorite sport to watch and which team do you root for?

I don’t really watch very many sports but if I do, it’s hockey and of course, I root for the Ottawa Senators.

What trend do you hope makes a comeback?

Plaid pants.
