What is your job title?
Manager IT Support Services, Faculty of Arts
How do you see your role going forward?
I am the IT liaison between the Faculty of Arts and the University. I try to facilitate collaborative projects whether they are between the faculty and the University or Information Technology. I’m helping the faculty to meet the goals outlined in the Faculty of Arts Roadmap 2030, the Digital Campus Transformation Plan and Transformation 2030. I look for ways to merge strategic IT goals and move them forward in a harmonious way. An excellent example is our partnership to pool resources and deliver administrative optimizations to the University.
What is your hidden passion?
Board games, but modern ones (like Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride … and many, many more)—NOT MONOPOLY.
What is your guilty indulgence?
Food! Despite what many say, barbecuing is a year-round activity.
What is your unknown/hidden talent?
I’m resourceful. I do my own projects, renovations, and vehicle maintenance… to name a few. I’m a jack of all trades, but a master of none. If I can learn about it and save myself some money, I’ll try to do it myself.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
When it comes to children, the days are long, but the years are short.
What are you learning now, and why is it important?
I’m trying to learn how to be more artistic. It’s so outside of my comfort zone. I’m dabbling into YouTube and video editing to share some of my personal projects and passions.
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Humorous, verbose, foodie
What’s your favourite sport to watch and which team do you root for?
I don’t watch sports, I’m a car guy.
Current project: I’ve taken the initiative to lead the System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM) implementation for the University. The faculty was a heavy user of the old platform; we were almost 100% with our desktop management automation. We are extremely motivated to move forward with the new platform so we can be fully automated again. I’m attending all the technical meetings, I created a working group, and I am facilitating the project to ensure we move forward. I am acting as a liaison between technical side, Service Management and the SCCM steering committee.
