What a splendid success! Over 100 people attended Information Technology’s Fair on June 14 from 10-12 in the University Centre’s terminus area. Marc Joyal, Vice-President Resources, in the opening remarks, was pleased to see all the work that was displayed, and took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of the user experience, acknowledging there is a large diversity in who uses our systems and therefore we need to keep all these groups in mind when we deploy solutions. Michel Lapointe, Senior Director and organizer of the IT Fair, expressed his thanks for everyone’s superb work to present appealing and informative displays, tying the initiative into the efforts to provide more communication among us about our projects. As Martin Bernier, our CIO said, the IT Fair is a good opportunity to learn more about the systems and services are working on, and he was looking forward to trying the demos and learning more.

Employees presenting a poster with the title time is money.

The posters sessions were spread among seventeen tables that were arranged along the walls of the terminus area. There were great presenters from IT Services & Infrastructure and IT Solutions who offered demos, explanations, and answered the multitude of questions attendees had for them. Discussions abounded everywhere and questions were flying as everyone got together to learn more about what activities were underway in Information Technology. As you slowly walked along the tables, you could hear “I didn’t know you could do that!”, “Did you know that …”, “Isn’t it amazing that we’re looking into this?” This was truly a fun way to delve into project details that otherwise we might not have known.

There is an incredible need at the University for IT innovation and the well-attended event demonstrates that we’re all interested in how to raise the bar. Presenters were open and happy to share their knowledge, and we could feel the dedication our staff brings to each initiative. On a more social note, it offered a wonderful opportunity to network and explore topics in a relaxed and informal setting. Looking ahead already to raise the ante next year!
