MFA

Information Technology is pleased to announce that the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) project rollout is complete.

The IT security project to enrol all uOttawa students to Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) has come to an end. Out of ~45700 active students in the winter session, ~44500 students have registered for MFA. No complaints or major issues were recorded during the transition period.

The project catalyzed a rise in the percentage of active uOttawa students enrolled to MFA – from 48% in the beginning of the project (January 10, 2022) to 97% at its completion (April 1, 2022).

As indicated by the numbers, the project has been successful in reaching its objective. The adoption of MFA, an additional service in the authentication process, significantly reduces instances of account compromises. Hence, University of Ottawa recommends this original approach as a model to share so that a greater number of institutions can consider it for adoption.
