Phishing Alert: Email storage limit scams

There is a phishing message that is being circulated to accounts. This message was sent as an attempt to gain access to your accounts and personal information. The message claims that storage limits have been exceeded for your email account (a sample of this message can be seen below, in French). You are asked to click a link which directs you to a harmful website that attempts to gather your personal information.

If you receive this message or similar phishing attempts, DO NOT click on any of the links or reply to the message, and permanently delete (SHIFT + delete) the message immediately.

If you have clicked on the link

  • From a work machine: contact the Service Desk immediately at ext. 6555 and we will send an analyst to complete a security assessment. If you’ve shared personal information, you should also change your password immediately. 
  • If you’ve clicked on the link from a personal device: immediately scan your machine using antivirus software.

Help keep the University safe: if you encounter a suspicious email, report it.

Subject: Chers utilisateurs du compte Ottawa.

Chers utilisateurs du compte Ottawa.
Vous avez dépassé le quota limite de 900 Mo de votre compte de courrier électronique et vous êtes prié de l'étendre dans les 48 heures, sinon votre compte e-mail sera désactivé dans notre base de données. Il vous suffit de CLIQUER avec les informations complètes requises pour augmenter votre quota de compte e-mail à 5 Go.
