Did you know that phishing and account compromises have seen a significant worldwide increase since the start of the pandemic? Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enrolment significantly reduces instances of an account compromise by over 99%. To deliver this added benefit to student accounts, all new students will be required to enrol into MFA.

Student MFA enrolment

To facilitate the process for new students, communications sent to new students will point to a new IT for students webpage and daily enrolment sessions will take place between May 17 and June 30, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Enrolment is available as soon as a new student account is activated, but they will be prompted for enrolment one week after they activate their account.

MFA will not be mandatory for current students during this phase. To provide their account added security, they should be encouraged to enrol for MFA.

Security is everyone’s responsibility!

Help make our network and applications safer by encouraging students to enrol for MFA. If you interact with students through the uOttawa network or applications, this is an important security step to protect both their account and yours. It has already drastically improved account security for support staff and academic accounts.
