Update often

Click with discretion. Update often. Fortify passwords. Protect data.

Protect yourself from many attacks by keeping your software up-to-date. Check now if your software has an automated update option. When you receive a notification, quickly install all updates and restart your machine.

Frequently update these biggies: your operating system (do it immediately), Web browser (do it ASAP), and don’t forget Adobe Acrobat/Reader/Flash and Java updates (the same day).

Tool yourself with some aids such as Qualys BrowserCheck, which does a security assessment of your browser and its plugins as well as some system checks on common issues. Java updates can be configured to be automatic but you can also do manual checks.

The next time you are tempted to delay running an update after receiving an update alert, remember that this is one of the fundamental ways to keep your device safe and JUST DO IT!

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month. Throughout the month, we invite you to include in your reflections the security practices for your smartphone, your tablet, as well your laptop.
