Step 1: Printer driver download and installation
First, download and save the appropriate Xerox Printer Driver on your computer:
*Please note that the following steps may differ based on your version of Mac OS X.
Once the file has finished downloading, double click on it to begin the installation process.
Double click on the Phaser 8560_EN file (see Figure 1).
In the This package will run a program... window, click on Continue (see Figure 2).
In the Install Xerox Phaser 8560 window, click on Continue. (see Figure 3).
In the Software License Agreement window, click on Continue. (see Figure 4)
In the following window, click on Agree. (see Figure 5)
In the Standard Install... window, click on Install. (see Figure 6)
Enter your Mac login Password (hard drive or administrator password) and click on OK. (see Figure 7)
In the Xerox PrintingScout window, click on No. (see Figure 8)
Select the third Printer Icon (network) at the top of the window and click on Continue. (see Figure 9)
In the Print Queue Not Created window, click on Continue. (see Figure 10)
In the Installation was successful window, click on Close. You can now proceed to Step 2. (see Figure 11)
Step 2: Installing the printer
Click on the Apple, select Preferences and click on Print & Fax. (see Figure 12)
Click on the + sign near the bottom left of the page. (see Figure 13)
Select the IP tab. In the Protocol field, choose Line Printer Daemon - LPD. (see Figure 14)
Complete the following fields as indicated:
- Address = relmon.uottawa.ca
- Queue = color
- Name = write a name to identify the printer (ex. Colour printer) (see Figure 15)
In the Print Using field, choose Select Printer Software... (see Figure 16)
In the Printer Software window, select Xerox Phaser 8560DT and click on OK. (see Figure 17)
This should return you to the Add Printer window. Click on Add. (see Figure 18)
In the following window, click on Continue. (see Figure 19)
This should have returned you to the Print & Fax window. In the Printers column, you should now see your new printer. In the Default printer field, you can decide to make the new printer your default one, or choose to leave it as it is. (see Figure 20)
You are now ready to test the printer.
You must be authenticated on the university’s wireless network to be able to send a print request.
At the public printer, enter the user name you use to log into your computer. If you are not sure what your user name is, follow these steps:
- Click on the Apple
- Select About This Mac
- Click on More Info...
- If you have OS X 10.7, click on "System Report..."
- In the Contents column, click on Software
- Under the field User name:, what appears between the brackets will be your user name for the printer.
